All right, in a previous article, I expressed my disappointment with the first Sonic movie, particularly because of Jim Carrey`s performance as Doctor Robotnik. I found that the character, instead of embodying a Machiavellian genius, had been ridiculed, which I really didn`t like. So it was with some hesitation that I ventured into the world of Sonic 3.
But before talking about this third installment, a little detour was necessary. Since I had not watched Sonic 2 still because of my initial disappointment. I found myself obliged to watch it to understand the events of the third film. To my great surprise, this journey led me to a discovery that changed my opinion about those sequels.
From the poster annoucement of Sonic 3, one detail particularly intrigued me.. the introduction of Gerald Robotnik. In the original story, this character is supposed to be long dead, and his appearance in the film initially left me skeptical. However, his presence turned out to be an excellent narrative decision, adding an unexpected depth to the plot. If Gerald Robotnik had not been included, the story would certainly have lost some of its intensity.
And what about Jim Carrey in this revisited role? While I only saw him as a caricatured Robotnik in Sonic 1, this new opus made me change my mind. His evolution towards a more serious and Machiavellian character was brilliantly executed. Jim Carrey was able to capture the essence of Doctor Robotnik with a finesse that impressed me, making me finally recognize that he was, perhaps, the best choice for this role and especialy also Gerald ! This was an impressive combos ! I loved it, maybe you will too !
In conclusion, Sonic 3 pleasantly surprised me. Where I had prejudices about Jim Carrey and doubts about the liberties taken with the original story, I discovered a film that succeeds in reinventing the Sonic universe while paying homage to its roots. A real success that reconciles me with the franchise and its creative choices.
So pay attention to this movie i recommand it !
Truly your, The Real Dr.R in this world.
